Arne Slot Slammed For ‘Shameless’ Comment After 3-0 Defeat vs Crystal Palace

Arne Slot has faced criticism for his “shameless” post-match comments after Liverpool lost the Carabao Cup to Crystal Palace 3-0.

Ismaila Sarr and Yeremy Pino’s goals secured Palace’s resounding victory, their third consecutive over the Reds this season, as the Anfield team suffered their sixth loss in seven games on Wednesday.

When Slot named three youngsters in his starting eleven and five more on the bench prior to kickoff, his team decision caused some controversy.

After the final whistle, he compared Liverpool’s squad depth to that of Manchester City and Chelsea and made 10 changes from the team that had lost 3-2 at Brentford on Saturday.

The football world took issue with Slot’s remarks, with some calling the Dutchman “desperate” after yet another devastating loss characterized by subpar defense and little to no attacking threat.

Speaking following the game, Slot asserted that Manchester City and Chelsea fielded far stronger starting lineups for their Carabao Cup matches than did Liverpool, comparing the two Premier League rivals’ roster depth:

The football community as a whole strongly criticized Slot’s comments. The Dutchman is “beginning to sound a little desperate,” according to journalist Luke Edwards:

“Twice in one summer, broke the British transfer record.” reportedly spent £450 million to bolster a team that took home the league title the previous season. He inherited a squad. His voice is beginning to sound a bit desperate. Seven games, six losses.

“Not great from Slot,” one user on X added. There is really no justification for being this awful after investing hundreds of millions of dollars in works like Ekitike, Isak, and others. No needs were addressed by the signings. However, pulling the “we don’t have depth” conversation is still unacceptable.

Another said: “What a pitiful thing! You still whine about the team after spending nearly half a billion dollars on new players in the summer!

“Spent £600m in the summer and is complaining about his squad depth,” said a another post.

Others, however, only remarked: “He has truly gone insane.” “He has lost his mind.”

Liverpool, who have only managed one victory in October, will have a difficult schedule going forward.

Slot’s team travels to Manchester City on Sunday, November 9, after hosting Aston Villa in the league on Saturday and playing Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
