Willie Collum believes John Beaton was correct in awarding Celtic a penalty in their win over Kilmarnock.
On his debut, Kelechi Iheanacho scored a penalty in the 96th minute to help the Hoops defeat Kilmarnock 2-1.
There was a lot of controversy about the decision as VAR revealed Lewis Mayo had handled the ball inside the box.
Beaton had ignored protests, but his decision was overturned, and Collum stated it was the correct call.
Willie Collum feels Celtic’s penalty against Kilmarnock was the right judgement.
Collum was reviewing some of the most contentious rulings on the Scottish Football Association’s YouTube account.
He and Gordon Duncan talked about the penalty decision, and while the former Premier League official admitted it was ‘debatable’, he thought awarding the spot-kick was the appropriate thing to do.
“This occurrence is very questionable. “The big thing for the VAR here is that the arm is up,” he explained.
If the shot touches Lewis Mayo directly and without deflection, it is a penalty kick. Even with this distortion, the punishment can be justified in law.
“However, I’ve stated since the beginning that no one accepted this (as a penalty).
“We believe that this should not be punished in the future. Moving ahead, if the same decision is made, we do not want to give a penalty kick.”
VAR has also been used against Celtic this season.
VAR has plagued sport in recent years, and while Celtic benefited from it against Kilmarnock, it also caused frustration against Braga.
Iheanacho equalised the night before VAR determined he had handled the ball, despite the fact that the film was not clear and evident.
Mark Clattenburg informed 67 Hail Hail that the Braga ruling was valid, and the Hoops went on to lose 2-0.
