What could possibly have gone wrong for Chelsea in their match versus Liverpool?
We would like to prevent a few things, but losing another defender to injury was one of the best possibilities. Not to mention two.
With Trevoh Chalobah suspended, Levi Colwill out for the season, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana not returning until after the international break, we’re already completely depleted. Benoit Badiashile is only recovering from his own ongoing problem, and if it weren’t for our desperate situation, he definitely wouldn’t be starting today.
We’ve now lost two more. You would know it, wouldn’t you?
Hato will take Acheampong’s place.
Josh Acheampong, who entered central defence today, was on the ground in agony after an hour had passed. He immediately left so that Jorrel Hato might take his place. Ten minutes prior, Benoit Badiashile had already left.
I hope it’s not a big deal for Josh. We expect to see him return to his best when he has a complete two weeks off during the international break. Every opportunity he loses to play during this crucial season is a setback.
To learn how seriously injured the two are, we’ll have to wait till Enzo Maresca’s press conference after the game. Badiashile’s had a horrible appearance.
A pair’s strong performance was cut short.
The games between the two had been excellent. They held their own against a formidable Liverpool attack, making only one significant error and otherwise keeping Alexander Isak and company quite quiet.
Acheampong’s absence from today’s game and his missed opportunity to start against Lincoln due to the virus are both very unfortunate. Although Enzo Maresca has a lot of faith in the young player, the battle at centre back will be fiercer and minutes will be harder to come by when he returns.
