Chelsea Make Enzo Maresca Sack Decision After Brighton Defeat

Enzo Maresca is facing mounting pressure at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have apparently made a decision on Enzo Maresca’s future despite the team’s poor performance.

Chelsea lost to Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, bringing their Premier League defeat streak to two.

Chelsea took the lead in the 24th minute thanks to a goal from Enzo Fernandez, but things began to unravel after Trevoh Chalobah was sent off with 53 minutes remaining.

Brighton then won 3-1, due to Danny Welbeck’s brace and Maxime De Cuyper’s goal.

Chelsea are now ninth in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Liverpool, following their defeat.

As a result, Maresca’s side is now three games without a win in the Premier League, having lost to Manchester United and drawn with Brentford recently.

Looking ahead, Blues manager Maresca is under increasing pressure to turn things around, and fans are starting to express their unhappiness.

Despite his dismal form, Maresca apparently has the full support of the Chelsea board.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea will not assess Maresca’s performance until the end of the 25/26 season.

The newspaper reported: “Maresca retains the backing of Behdad Eghbali (Co-controlling owner) and the sporting directors, who are not panicking over the team’s mini-slump.”

It has been reported that Chelsea’s goal this season is to finish in the top four of the Premier League and have a strong showing in cup competitions.

Maresca was under pressure during the 24/25 season due to a slump in form, but Chelsea repaid him by winning both the Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Maresca stated after the Brighton defeat: “It’s a tough one because we were in control of the game, scored one goal, and could have scored more.”

“It was fine. Then, due to our blunder with the red card, the entire strategy changed. So, for me, we had two games: one in the first half and, sadly, another after the red card.”

Chelsea return to UEFA Champions League play on Tuesday night when they face Benfica, managed by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, at Stamford Bridge.
