“Celtic captain Callum McGregor makes powerful statement – and Hearts fans won’t like it one bit”

Captain Callum McGregor has made a bold claim about Hearts’ title chances after Celtic dropped two points behind them in the Premiership.

Celtic produced numerous opportunities against Hibernian but were unable to complete the most crucial task, which was to put the ball in the back of the net. This is why, after six matchdays, they behind Hearts in the Premiership title chase. Of course, few expected this coming into the season.

Naturally, there is a lot of debate about Hearts’ title credentials. It has been a long time since a team other than Celtic or Rangers won the Scottish Premiership or even came close to challenging the Glasgow giants.

That being said, we’re just six games into the league season. One cannot simply make any judgements. There is still a long way to go, and many teams lose form over the course of a 38-game marathon, even if they start well.

Callum McGregor appears to share that sentiment, making a strong statement when Celtic fell behind Hearts in the title chase. According to the Edinburgh Evening News, Celtic captain said:

“We are six games in. Perhaps you begin to look at the table after 36 games, but not after six. The season is long, and there is a lot of football to play. We are thinking about performances and getting up to speed.

“Although we did not win the game, I am confident that if we continue to play like this, we will accumulate enough points to reach our goal. They (Hearts) are six games in. If you win all six, you will be at the top of the league. Everyone can get started to a solid start. Aberdeen completed it last year. If you win the games in front of you, you will have enough points.
Hearts fans will not like Celtic captain Callum McGregor’s outspoken statement.
McGregor has seen and experienced it all in Scottish football. So he’ll have a solid notion of how things might play out over the course of a 38-game league season. He has crossed the finish line multiple times over his career, including four times as captain.

Aberdeen are an excellent example of how a team can lose form over the course of a season. At the outset of the 24/25 season, the Dons seemed like legitimate title contenders as well. They had a fantastic start, with a draw against Celtic and a win over the Rangers demonstrating their quality.

By the end of the season, they would be fifth in the league standings. However, they did win the Scottish Cup, defeating Celtic in the final. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the table, with only one point to their name.
