Kris Commons believes Daizen Maeda should play more on the left wing to maximise his potential.
Maeda requested to leave Celtic earlier this year and reiterated his desire to do so in the summer, but Celtic prevented his exit from Glasgow.
Brendan Rodgers stated that Celtic were not in a position to sell Maeda, therefore the Japanese star will have to wait until January for his next opportunity to go.
Maeda hasn’t been at his best this season, and Rodgers hooked him at halftime during Wednesday’s match against Red Star Belgrade.
The player started the game as a striker, but Commons believes his best position is on the left wing.
Commons wants Daizen Maeda to play left wing for Celtic.
Commons has a lot of experience playing for Celtic, having scored 90 goals in 227 games from 2011 to 2017.
He spoke on the PLZ Football Podcast this week and believes Celtic will be more balanced with Maeda on the left.
Commons stated, “I think if we can get Daizen back on the left hand side, it gives a little bit.
“You know, one of Celtic’s finest performances last season, player of the year and everything, and all the awards he received.
“I think if we can get him into his natural position, then you’ll see the best of Daizen.”
Will Maeda start versus Hibernian?
After being hooked off against Red Star, Maeda’s starting spot in the Scottish Premiership versus Hibs today is in jeopardy.
67 Hail Hail anticipated Rodgers’ starting XI, with Maeda starting on the left, just where Commons wants him.
This would allow Kelechi Iheanacho to play as the central striker while Sebastian Tounekti could play on the right wing.
However, Rodgers may sit Maeda, play Tounekti on the left, and start either James Forrest or Yang Hyun-jun on the right.
