How Konstantinos Tsimikas Fared in First Roma Start Since Liverpool Move

With Andy Robertson still regarded as a strong, dependable left-back option and former Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez gone, Konstantinos Tsimikas was judged surplus to needs at Liverpool and sent on loan to AS Roma for the 2025–2026 campaign. However, what was the 29-year-old’s performance in his first start since his summer swap, a 2-1 victory against OGC Nice?

Encouraged by the hiring of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, the Italian team has had an incredible start to the season, winning three of their first four games and now sitting fourth in Serie A. They also had a fantastic start to their Europa League campaign, winning 2-1 with to goals from center-backs Gianluca Mancini and Evan N’Dicka.

Given the Greek left-back’s track record of winning trophies over the years, there’s no reason to believe Roma, a team Tsimikas prioritised, cannot succeed in Europe this season. After failing to play for Arne Slot in Liverpool’s first two games, he was traded to Italy on Deadline Day. How is he doing, though?

Inside Tsimikas’ Roma Debut After Loan Move from Liverpool

Assessing Tsimikas’ performance in the Italian capital was challenging following his debut, which was a nine-minute off-the-bench cameo against Lazio in the league. However, their most recent match in Europe’s second-tier competition has given the move a lot of substance, especially since the 43-cap Greece international got off to a strong start.

The former Olympiacos and Willem II star was allowed to attack down the left side of a bank of four while playing there, provided he also fulfilled his defensive responsibilities.

Tsimikas exploded down the left and was found with a pass from Neil El Aynaoui in the 55th minute as Roma attempted to expand their lead with a second goal. After removing the ball from his feet with a single touch, he sent it sumptuously into the danger area with his lovely left foot. Mancini, the unlikely scorer mentioned earlier, was the first to notice it. See it below:

Aside from his teaser for Roma’s second goal of the evening, his stats are quite impressive: 80 touches, three opportunities generated, seven passes into the final third, and an accuracy rate of 84% (43/51) on passes. In addition, he finished with four recoveries, two tackles, and the same amount of clearances. With his side’s business, Gasperini will be beaming.

The fact that Tsimikas will be playing for Roma for the remainder of the season will not only please club executives but also the supporters. One fan praised the seasoned defender on social media following their team’s victory at the Allianz Riviera, writing: “Tsimikas could be one of our most creative players, such a great guy.”

“Tsimikas’ crosses already created the idea that they may have an impact. Before another supporter waxed poetic about their team’s depth in that position: Tsimikas and Angelino, the second fan stated, “The important thing is to serve him well. You can’t serve a striker 90% of the time with his back to the goal, especially if, like Dovbyk, you’re not capable.”

“Tsimikas’ ball in was simply amazing. Having both Angelino and Tsimikas in that wing-back position is a huge luxury, as I already noted a few days ago.

“Tsimikas and El Aynaoui both very impressive tonight. Love seeing new signings perform as well as that,” one said as another kept it short and simple when describing the one-time Premier League winner’s display on away soil. They concluded: “Tsimikas is the real deal.”

In an effort to continue their winning streak in the Europa League, Roma will host 15th-place Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend before hosting LOSC Lille. Tsimikas, who was linked to a £15 million move to Leeds United in the summer of 2025, was born in Thessaloniki.
