It is safe to assume that Celtic’s comfortable position this season, despite a dismal summer transfer window and unimpressive performances, is mostly due to the Rangers’ poor performance. Russell Martin has had one of the worst beginnings in the Ibrox club’s history, becoming the first manager in 47 years to lose all five games in charge.
Naturally, their supporters have called for his dismissal, despite the fact that it is just mid-September. And, given the recent protests outside Ibrox, it appears that that decision is unavoidable, as it was for Mick Beale, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Philippe Clement, albeit those situations also stretched on for some time.
As for Martin, it appears that the Rangers are in a difficult situation. He was only appointed this summer, and firing him now will cost them a significant quantity of money. It has been suggested that the value is close to £2 million.
As a result, one might expect the Rangers to give him every opportunity to succeed. And the change in media coverage of his status following their weekend success suggests that Martin may be in the Ibrox hot seat for the foreseeable being, which Celtic fans would welcome.
Celtic would love the new update on Russell Martin and Rangers.
Many people are questioning if Martin’s choice to bring back Nico Raskin will be a stumbling block for him at Rangers. Others believe it will offer him a chance to succeed at Ibrox. And, at the absolute least, the Hibernian victory offers him some breathing room.
The media coverage surrounding a manager makes it easy to assess his status. And coming out of this weekend, it appears like the goal is to restore the Martin era.
It remains to be seen whether the Rangers will go on a run from here. However, if they slip a few more times, he will most certainly be shown the exit door, which is unfortunate for Celtic.
