Marcus Rashford was dropped from Barcelona’s match against Getafe after violating one of Hansi Flick’s rules just days after scoring a sensational brace in the UEFA Champions League.
The English attacker scored twice in the La Liga giants’ 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in Europe’s top club competition on Thursday (September 18). Nonetheless, he has lost his spot in Flick’s starting lineup, not because of his performance, but due of his off-field conduct.
The 27-year-old is on loan with the Catalans after being released by Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim for failing to match the Portuguese’ requirements. The current Red Devils coach questioned his professionalism while they were working together.
Rashford Dropped After Breaking the Flick Rule

According to Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, Rashford was reprimanded for coming “a little late” to a squad meeting before a training camp ahead of their game against Getafe on Sunday night. His German manager, Flick, has a rule that anyone who arrives late on matchday does not play, even if they were originally scheduled to start.
Rashford had just scored his first goal for the club in the Champions League opening, and he was on fire. He has a point to prove having being frozen out by Amorim at Old Trafford, and he has stated that he intends to make the loan move permanent.
According to the story, the England international arrived two minutes late, not for the practice, but for the “scheduled time”. Given how he left United, it’s unsurprising that Spanish media is keeping an eye on his off-field activities.

Rashford’s delay was attributed to completing out required information, and he isn’t the only player to be punished by Flick. Jules Kounde, Inaki Pena, and Raphinha have also received penalties for similar incidents.
Ferran Torres began on the left for Barcelona against Getafe in La Liga, and the Spanish attacker scored twice in the first half. Flick’s strength in depth makes them one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
‘Special’ Hansi Flick played an important role in Rashford’s move to Barcelona.

Rashford will want to keep Flick pleased, since the German was the one who gave the go light for the United attacker to move to Catalonia in the summer. The Blaugrana were also interested in Luis Diaz, but cooled their interest due to the Colombian’s high price, and he moved from Liverpool to Bayern Munich for £65.5 million.
The Englishman praised Flick shortly after completing his loan move, telling Spanish outlet El Periodico: “He’s very communicative and direct, which is especially important with a lot of young players.” The direction must be clear. His motivation is tremendous to outperform last season, which is why I believe the club will succeed.
Rashford went further: “He’s a special coach who knows how to work with special players.”
Flick took over Barcelona in July of last year and led the club to a dominant La Liga triumph while also going close to reaching the Champions League final. Rashford, Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Torres are among the many attacking options he has available to him.
