Brentford fans have weighed in on Jordan Henderson following the Bees’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday. Henderson made a surprise return to the Premier League this summer, signing a contract with Hounslow despite reports of interest from his former club Sunderland.
The veteran England international has appeared in all four Premier League games under Keith Andrews, and he played the entire 90 minutes for the first time against Chelsea. Fans have voiced their true feelings about the 35-year-old after his performance at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Fans Give Henderson Verdict After Chelsea Draw
While the attention was on Alejandro Garnacho when he made his Chelsea debut, Henderson’s performance did not go unnoticed, with fans raving about the 85-cap Three Lions star on social media.
Henderson had a strong overall performance in the middle of the park, completing 78% of his passes, making seven passes in the final third, four clearances, and three tackles and recoveries.
The outstanding moment occurred when Brentford took an unexpected lead when Henderson received the ball in his own half and immediately put Kevin Schade in behind Chelsea’s backline. The German would score smartly in the bottom corner, giving Henderson his first goal as a Bees player.
Henderson told Sky Sports after the game that he was thrilled to be back in the English top division, saying:
“Playing at the Premier League’s top level again is pleasant. It means a lot to be back playing in the world’s finest league. Whether it’s today or with the national team, I’m incredibly thankful for the chance to return and prove to people that I can still play at this level.
“I feel fit, I feel good and I just want to keep trying to enjoy my football and show people I can help the team moving forward.”
Since he has gained some new admirers in the form of Brentford supporters, it appears that not just the midfield player is content. “I think a lot of us owe this man an apology and I am definitely one of them,” one fan wrote on social media. One person commented: “I’ll admit that I was skeptical when his transfer was confirmed, but he’s been nothing but class since joining.” Another said: “What a signing he’s been for *Checks notes* FREE.” Excellent work every minute.
“An outstanding performance from Henderson, full 90 mins as well,” a third person wrote, and a fourth person added, “He played absolutely brilliantly- never stopped running and leading the team – quality player.”
