Despite his brief tenure as Manchester United’s interim manager from November 2021 to May 2022, Ralf Rangnick offered several valuable leadership insights.
Most significantly, he asserted that in order to return this team to winning ways, “open heart surgery” would be required. He also suggested other high-profile additions, such as Luis Diaz and Erling Haaland.
The people in charge at Old Trafford ignored him on the majority of fronts. As a result, the Red Devils’ decline has persisted, and there are rumours that they may be able to let go of one of their best players.
Alejandro Garnacho was more likely to depart Manchester United than stay, according to GIVEMESPORT sources as early as January 2025. After being seen on vacation in June with an Aston Villa shirt, the Argentine’s future was further cast into doubt. Towards the close of the summer transfer window, he finally completed a high-profile move to Chelsea.
Rangnick advised Garnacho to keep his “feet on the ground” but predicted him to do big things.

Garnacho hadn’t even returned to action with the Red Devils at that point. He was a highly regarded young player who had scored two goals in the quarterfinal match against Leicester City at Old Trafford and had also scored in matches against Everton and Scunthorpe United during the Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup.
At the age of seventeen years, nine months, and twenty-eight days, he would make his senior debut in April 2022 in a 1-1 Premier League draw against Chelsea. However, Rangnick had been praising the teenager just a few weeks earlier:
For the past two weeks, [Garnacho] has been training with us [the first team], and I am confident that he is among the most talented players.
Even though he is only 17, he is a player who, if he stays grounded, should succeed. In addition to being on the bench, he has a good possibility of playing for this team if he continues to work on improving every day.”
It’s intriguing that Rangnick cautioned that Garnacho “must keep his feet on the ground” while simultaneously accurately predicting that he might eventually establish himself as a mainstay in the first squad. Due to his alleged lack of “engagement with teammates,” Ruben Amorim fired him once during the 2024–2025 season, raising concerns about his attitude in recent years.
Given this, it’s possible that Rangnick was already suspicious of the player’s mindset and wished to caution the Argentine about the standards needed to succeed. However, Amorim seems to have serious worries about the player, therefore it doesn’t seem if Garnacho heeded the suggestion.
In terms of football alone, he is undoubtedly very talented, but there are other problems. The youthful winger has already departed Old Trafford and will be looking to disprove his sceptics at Stamford Bridge.
