Tottenham Hotspur has announced the immediate departure of chairman Daniel Levy. The 63-year-old had been in charge for nearly a quarter of a century, taking over in 2001, but has now stepped down with immediate effect. During his tenure, Levy has watched Tottenham Hotspur grow into one of England’s largest clubs.
He took over a lackluster mid-table squad and helped develop it into a regular European challenger, bringing in players such as Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, and Son Heung-min throughout his stay. During his tenure, the club made considerable investments in its facilities, culminating in the club’s first trophy in 17 years, the Europa League, which they won earlier this summer.
Despite the silverware, Tottenham chose to replace Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank. With the departure of club icon Son, Tottenham is entering a new era, and Levy will not be a part of it.
Levy issued a statement regarding his departure.

The club broke the news on social media through a post on their official website, which featured a message from Levy regarding his choice to leave. The now former chairman stated:
“I am really proud of the work I have completed with the leadership team and all of our staff. We have transformed this club into a global heavyweight, competing at the top level. More than that, we’ve created a community. I was fortunate to deal with some of the best people in this sport, including the Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way teams, as well as all of the players and managers over the years.
“I’d like to thank all of the fans who have supported me throughout the years. It has not always been a smooth trip, but tremendous progress has been accomplished. I will continue to support this club wholeheartedly.”
Following his departure, the club announced the formation of a new role, non-executive chairman, which would be filled by Peter Charrington. Charrington stated regarding his appointment, “I am very honoured to become Non-Executive Chairman of this extraordinary Club, and, on behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Daniel and his family for their commitment and loyalty to the Club over so many years.”
“This marks a new era of leadership for the club, both on and off the pitch.” I recognize that there has been a lot of change in recent months as we lay fresh groundwork for the future. We are now completely focused on stabilizing and supporting our talented individuals throughout the Club, lead by Vinai and his executive team.”
