Liverpool target £100m signing after Alexander Isak in Man City and Real Madrid transfer battle

The Premier League champions have expressed interest in Isak throughout the summer and may shift their focus to another elite player.

Liverpool is one of several top clubs showing interest in another Premier League star, as their chase of Newcastle attacker Alexander Isak continues.

Isak, 25, has been widely linked with a move from Newcastle to Liverpool throughout the summer transfer season, including an unsuccessful approach for £110 million plus add-ons earlier this month.

The Swede has not played for Newcastle since the final game of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and in a statement last week, he stated that he believes “promises” made to him have been “broken”.

Despite the fact that Isak clearly wants to leave, Newcastle appears unwilling to authorize a transfer until they bring in two forwards first.

Eddie Howe’s team is hoping to sign Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade before the September 1 deadline.

Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that the Magpies have agreed to pay £64.86 million (€75 million) plus £4.3 million (€5 million) in add-ons for the Stuttgart forward.

In principle, this may allow Isak to leave.

However, Liverpool’s business this summer may not be over.

Despite having signed nine players this summer (Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman, Will Wright), reports from Caught Offside suggest that the Reds, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

Wharton, 21, has shone with the Eagles after joining from Blackburn Rovers in 2024. He earned his first England cap last summer and was nominated to Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 team.

According to Caught Offside, Palace would seek up to £100 million for the 21-year-old.

According to sources, Liverpool, City, and Real Madrid are the current frontrunners to capture Wharton, with Manchester United and Tottenham also showing long-term interest.

Tottenham made contact with Palace before the Community Shield, but their focus is now on signing Xavi Simons. João Palhinha, on loan from Bayern Munich, will likely play in the ‘number six’ position this season.

“City have been monitoring Wharton’s development for months, and they’re considering a bid,” the insider stated, before detailing how Real Madrid is assessing the financial aspects of a potential purchase.

Wharton’s deal with Palace runs until 2029.
