Breaking news: Premier League release a new official Newcastle United statement after Liverpool controversy with Anthony Gordon red card

Newcastle United is trailing Liverpool 1-0 at St. James’ Park and has only ten players at halftime.

Despite Newcastle’s dominant opening 35 minutes, Ryan Gravenberch gave Liverpool the lead.

Referee Simon Hooper was then instructed to consult the VAR monitor on the verge of halftime, and Anthony Gordon was given a clear red card.

Gordon received a yellow card from Hooper for a cynical challenge on Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. Gordon’s second dismissal from St James’ Park in 2025.

Premier League concern Newcastle United is publishing a statement of departure
The in-stadium quote from Hooper, which elucidates his VAR overturn, was posted by the Premier League Match Centre, which publishes statements elucidating VAR decisions during matches on X.

The statement read: “#NEWLIV – 45+1′ VAR OVERTURN.” Following a VAR review, the referee revised his on-field decision to send Anthony Gordon a yellow card. An announcement from the referee: “The Newcastle United number 10 has committed a serious foul play challenge following a review.” The challenge, which is marked by pace, certainly had an impact on Liverpool’s number four calf. The last decision I make is to show Newcastle United’s number 10 the red card.

Gordon was now facing a three-match suspension, and Newcastle went into the interval losing 1-0. Furthermore, they lacked a proven goalscorer.

Newcastle United’s striker problem continues to deteriorate.
Newcastle started the season without an established striker after Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak went on strike.

The Magpies are currently in a more precarious position, since Will Osula, the sole available striker in the team, has yet to start a Premier League game for the club. Gordon has started the first two matches.

It highlights Newcastle’s need to enter the transfer market and sign a striker before the September 1 transfer deadline. The club has lately failed in its attempts to sign Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.

When asked about Gordon’s chances of starting up front against Liverpool, Howe replied, “I believe he has the experience to perform exceptionally well for the team.”

“I have no objection to playing him there.” I’ve used him as both a starter and a replacement on several occasions.

“He operates differently than other strikers, but this can be advantageous due to his exceptional pace.”

“He has a strong work ethic and has historically scored goals from a distance.” Furthermore, many of these aims will begin in core locations, while others will originate in distant places.

“I believe you can exaggerate the degree to which the position has changed.” I suppose he enjoys the position. I thought he played really well in a couple of areas of this game last week.

“Certainly, it would be evaluated by the single most important criterion, which is the number of goals scored by all strikers.” He was given multiple opportunities and chances to shoot. As a result, I thought he gave an extremely amazing performance.

Liverpool has also expressed interest in Gordon, like Isak, for a transfer. Negotiations with Newcastle were held last summer under the influence of the Premier League. Gordon was obviously eager to join his childhood club; but, a deal was not reached. As a result, he concentrated on his job, signed a new deal with Newcastle, and played a key role in their Carabao Cup victory, despite being suspended for the final against Liverpool.
