Manchester United executives have been told what it will take to persuade former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane to replace Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils have just played two games this season, but Amorim is already under pressure. Following a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw away to Fulham, the Portuguese coach’s winning percentage was shockingly low at 24.7%.
Amorim has been in charge since November 2024, overseeing a 15th-place finish and a Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur. The tie at Craven Cottage brought back memories of his team’s defeats last season, sparking speculation that INEOS should replace him.

Petit predicted that Zidane would have a similar approach to the squad: “United is still a massive club, but not on the pitch anymore. Zizou is very mindful and concerned about the quality of the players. Looking at the roster right now, I’m not persuaded of some of the guys’ abilities. If he accepts the position at Manchester United, that shows he has solutions.”
While a hypothetical Premier League job may attract Zidane, there has long been speculation that he is waiting for the France national team position. He reportedly turned down offers from United, Saudi Arabia, and Paris Saint-Germain in recent years to succeed Didier Deschamps, whose contract expires after the 2026 World Cup.

Zidane was equally successful as a player as he is now in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout. He was a world-class offensive midfielder who flourished as one of Madrid’s ‘Galacticos’.
David Beckham was one of the superstars who played alongside the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner, and the two had a close bond. In his post-career, the former England captain has shifted his focus to football business rather than management.
The United legend praised Zidane after he was appointed Madrid manager in 2016, sending a joyful message that Sir Jim Ratcliffe should take note of. He wrote: “Someone who is driven, passionate, and refuses to accept failure at any level. Taking on a role that he will like… “The best candidate for the job.”
Zidane lived up to that reputation, leading Los Blancos to the La Liga title, three Champions Leagues, the Supercopa de Espana, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup during his first term. He returned in 2019 to win another La Liga title, as well as the Supercopa de Espana and FIFA Club World Cup.
Unlike Amorim, the French tactician shown tactical flexibility, adapting to his opponents while primarily using a 4-3-3 shape. Many believe that the current United squad is a better suited for that system, as the midfield has been regularly swamped, leaving no room for wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo.
