Manchester United’s next signing might be assigned a unique shirt number that no other player in the club’s history has ever worn. The team has already strengthened its attack with three new signings, including prolific RB Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko, Premier League duo Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. They are now looking for a new goalie.
Ruben Amorim is currently stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea with Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana, two goalkeepers who have more mistakes than clean sheets. That is why the relatively unknown Senne Lammens appears to be on the verge of agreeing to a move to rescue the terrible situation at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Antwerp shot-stopper could complete his move to England in the coming days, with sources indicating Bayindir may head in the opposite direction before the September 1 transfer deadline. Few will be familiar with the 23-year-old Belgian’s abilities, and the fact that he will be wearing a shirt number so high that it has never been worn at United adds to the mystery.
New Manchester United signing could take No. 91 shirt.

Lammens has made four appearances in the 2025/26 Belgian Pro League season, and his statistics look extremely good. In goalkeeping metrics, the youngster has conceded only one goal per 90 minutes, making 11 saves from 15 shots on target. That gives him a save percentage of 73.3%, putting him in the 93rd percentile among goalkeepers in comparable leagues (e.g., Belgian Pro League, Dutch Eredivisie, MLS).
He also saved four penalties in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, demonstrating his poise in high-pressure situations. His preference for unique squad numbers, however, is considerably less obvious than his ability to stop shots. Lammens has worn the traditional No. 1 shirt only a few times in his career, and never at the senior level.
Instead, at both Club Brugge and Royal Antwerp, the 23-year-old has chosen No. 91. He previously wore No. 1 for Brugge’s U19s in two UEFA Youth League campaigns, after wearing No. 13 earlier in his career. He even wore No. 12 when called up to the Belgian national team. With only a limited range of squad numbers still available at United, he could easily end up breaking a club record.

Assuming Bayindir makes way before the summer window shuts, Man Utd’s No. 1 shirt will be available for Lammens. However, as reported by Sports Illustrated, the Belgian shot-stopper’s penchant for the No. 91 means the Red Devils could vacate the traditional number for 2025-26, with Onana wearing No. 24.
Premier League rules stipulate that players can wear any shirt number between 1 and 99, so Lammens could opt for his unique number in Manchester. The Nos. 12 and 13 previously worn by the 23-year-old are currently held by Tyrell Malacia and Patrick Dorgu, respectively
