Odds slashed on next Man Utd manager after poor start to the season as two frontrunners emerge

“For years, the environment at Manchester United has not been pleasant. The bench’s stability, the caliber of the players, and the club’s expectations are no longer what they once were.

Petit added: “United is still a massive club, but not on the football.

“And Zizou is highly sensitive and concerned about the quality of the players.

“Looking at the team right now, I’m not sure about the level of some of the players. If he accepts the position at Manchester United, that shows he has solutions.”

Zidane has been without a managerial position since leaving Real Madrid, where he won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles, in 2021, but he has been heavily linked with the soon-to-be vacant France job, as current head coach Didier Deschamps is set to step down after the 2026 World Cup.

The Red Devils have just one point from two games this season, losing 1-0 to Arsenal and drawing 1-1 against Fulham on Sunday.

Amorim has now taken command of 29 Premier League games since joining United, with his team earning just 28 points in the English top tier, for an atrocious 24.7% victory rate.

Former Manchester United forward and club-record goal scorer Wayne Rooney revealed on Monday’s ‘The Wayne Rooney Show’ that he believes Amorim has no tolerance for “excuses” this season.

“There are no excuses now for the manager this season,” Rooney stated. “He’s got to start getting results and get the results quickly because once you start getting into October and November, if the results don’t change drastically, then that’s where the pressure comes.”

And there is no indication that United is considering changing their head coach at this moment, but if results do not improve, the pressure, as Rooney stated, will begin to increase.

So, who are the frontrunners to succeed Amorim if he leaves United?

Unfortunately for Crystal Palace fans, their head coach, Oliver Glasner, is currently the joint favourite with odds of 4/1 according to Oddchecker.

While out of job, former England manager Gareth Southgate is the joint favourite at 4/1.

The odds for Oliver Glasner to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager are 4/1.

Gareth Southgate, 4/1

Michael Carrick – 5/1

Mauricio Pochettino, 8/1

Kieran McKenna – 10/1

Zinedine Zidane, 12/1

Marco Silva – 12/1

Unai Emery – 12/1
