Fabrizio Romano issues huge update on Alexander Isak to Liverpool ahead of Newcastle game

The Newcastle United striker has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, has spoken out about Alexander Isak’s prospective move to Liverpool ahead of the Premier League meeting with Newcastle United.

In the penultimate encounter of the second week of Premier League matches, champions Liverpool will meet Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday night in what many believe will be the best match of the season so far.

With tensions around Newcastle’s star Isak and his prospective move to Anfield at an all-time high, many fans predict that the atmosphere inside St James’ Park will be one of the most daunting in recent years.

With only one week until the transfer market closes, Monday’s encounter could be crucial in any negotiations over Isak in the following days.

But, before the match, transfer specialist Romano has provided an update on the situation surrounding Isak’s probable move to Liverpool.

As of now, speculations claim that Newcastle will only contemplate moving their star player if they can sign two new strikers this week, one to replace Isak and the other to replace Callum Wilson, who left earlier this summer.

However, with Liverpool set to make a second British record bid in the coming days, Romano has indicated that the issue is far from over.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer journalist said: “It’s going to be an important moment because it’s going to end this story between Newcastle and Liverpool, and then we’ll know more on Tuesday.

“Newcastle hopes that Alexander Isak will be able to return to training this week, after the game. They aim to persuade Isak to return after the game on Monday.

“Liverpool remains in the same position; they want Isak, and they will attack for him, but it all depends on Newcastle; this story is entirely dependent on Newcastle.”

“Isak wishes to travel to Liverpool. Isak wants to play for Liverpool. Liverpool want to sign Isak. Liverpool is prepared to pay. But Newcastle are the ones who decide, and they will do their best to keep him.

After their initial offer of £110 million was rejected in early August, Liverpool would most likely have to spend much more if they expect to persuade Newcastle to sell Isak so late in the transfer season.

It is unclear how much the Reds would have to spend to get the Sweden international, but the whole package is expected to be at least £130 million, surpassing the British transfer record established by Florian Wirtz’s £116 million move to Liverpool earlier this summer.
