According to a recent report, tensions are rising between the ownership and Espirito Santo.
Nottingham Forest are apparently considering replacing Nuno Espírito Santo and examining other coaches, just one game into the Premier League season.
Last season, Espírito Santo guided Forest to an incredible seventh-place finish, securing the club’s European qualifying for the first time in nearly 30 years.
In June, the Portuguese coach signed a new three-year contract at the City Ground. “I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club,” he had remarked at the time.
According to a recent claim by Spanish daily Marca and Matteo Moretto, a former Relevo and Sky Italia reporter with over 400,000 followers on X, Forest is pondering Espírito Santo’s future.
“Nottingham Forest is considering sacking Nuno Espírito Santo,” said the manager. “Tensions between the ownership and the Portuguese coach, also stemming from certain signings during this transfer window.”
Moretto cited Espírito Santo’s recent admission that his team is not fully prepared for the upcoming season.
“We are very far off in terms of the squad,” he told Sky Sports.
“Our plans didn’t work out. Squad preparation was not great. We don’t know who makes up our group. We have players who are aware that they are going on loan. We have a major problem.”
According to the article, Forest are ‘already considering other coaches’ following their 3-1 victory over Brentford last weekend.
After the final whistle on Sunday, a delighted Espirito Santo said it was “impossible to ask for a better start” after goals from Chris Wood [2] and Dan Ndoye secured an overwhelming opening day victory.
“The boys were on fire in the way they started the game,” he told me. “We got the first goal to settle everything down then we had the energy from the fans and everything started to flow.”
The 51-year-old shared: “Today we couldn’t have asked for anymore, the City Ground was loud and bouncing, it was a beautiful day for us.”
Nuno Espirito Santo was previously associated with Forest departure.
Espirito Santo was linked with a move away from City Ground in May, before signing a new contract with the club.
Foot Mercato reported ‘internal conflicts’ between owner Evangelos Marinakis and the Portuguese coach.
“The time for change is now,” the report stated. According to our knowledge, Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo may leave his position at the end of the season. This is a strange development given the City Ground team’s excellent season.”
