Alexander Isak speaks out for first time amid Liverpool transfer saga and makes ‘broken promises’ claim

Alexander Isak sent a message over social media after missing the PFA Awards.

Alexander Isak has broken his silence on the transfer scandal, claiming ‘promises were breached’.

Isak dominated the summer transfer window.

He is attempting to push a transfer away from Newcastle United, with Liverpool preparing a ‘club record bid’ ahead of next month’s deadline.

Isak has gone on strike at Newcastle and, understandably, did not play in his team’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

On Tuesday, he was named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

However, the Swede did not attend the event in Manchester.

Shortly after being chosen to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, Isak took to social media to explain his absence and respond to rumours linking him with a move away from St. James’ Park.

He believes ‘promises’ have been breached and reiterates his intention to quit Newcastle this summer.

In a post on his Instagram account, he said, “I’m honored to be named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25 by my peers.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the journey.

“I’m not attending the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel appropriate to be present.

“I remained silent for a long time while others chatted. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, although knowing that it does not reflect what was stated and agreed upon behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made, and the club has known about my situation for a long time. It is disingenuous to appear as if these difficulties are only just surfacing.

“When commitments are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot last. That’s where things are for me right now, and why change benefits everyone, not just myself.”

Liverpool is still looking for more reinforcements, having already signed Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, among others.

The Reds are hellbent on signing Isak, who scored 23 league goals in 34 games last season.
