Liverpool handed Alexander Isak boost with Newcastle ‘hopeful’ of transfer agreement

A vital update in Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has received a significant boost as reporter Craig Hope released a major update.

Isak has been linked with a surprising move to Liverpool as the new Premier League season began on Friday.

The Reds began the season with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Bournemouth, while the Magpies drew goalless with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Needless to say, the Swede did not travel to Villa Park for his team’s opening league game of the season, but he was exposed to a savage chant by the visiting Newcastle fans.

Liverpool and Newcastle are both looking to add to their respective squads before the market closes next month.

Of course, Arne Slot is looking at Isak because he wants to add another forward after approving the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

Eddie Howe, meanwhile, wants more reinforcements after acquiring Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, which disappointed Tyrone Mings and John McGinn.

Both Slot and Howe might sign the players they desire before the September 1 transfer deadline.

According to writer Hope, Newcastle are still interested in signing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and are ‘hopeful of striking an agreement when talks continue’.

They are also keeping an eye on Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos.

If the club signs Wissa and possibly Ramos, it increases the likelihood that Isak will leave St. James’ Park this summer.

On X, Hope wrote: “Newcastle still focused on deal for Yoane Wissa & next 24 hours will be key. “Brentford stuck to £50m valuation (and reports today that it is now £60m). “NUFC won’t deal at those numbers (PIF simply would not allow it) but are hopeful of reaching agreement when talks resume today. “They’re still looking for the two strikers that would allow them to consider selling Isak (as has been the plan all summer). Ramos remains an option.
