Liverpool has expressed interest in the Crystal Palace captain in recent days.
In order to close a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer, Liverpool may use one of their players as “make weight.”
Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman, and Giorgi Mamardashvili are among the seven players Liverpool has already signed this summer, although they are still available before the deadline of September 1.
Arne Slots defeated Bournemouth 4-2 at Anfield on Friday to start their 2025–26 Premier League campaign on a high one.
Everyone could see how good the champions were at attacking, but Antoine Semenyo’s brace revealed problems in defense.
Naturally, Jarell Quansah’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer reduced Liverpool’s defense options.
Slot currently only has three center backs: Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and newcomer Giovanni Leoni. Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, who are regular midfielders, might also play center back if needed.
Rhys Williams, who was on loan at Morecambe the previous season, may also be used, but he is probably going to leave this summer due to interest from EFL teams.
Guehi’s arrival would therefore give Slot’s team much-needed Premier League and international experience.
However, a deal might be difficult.
Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport discussed his knowledge of the matter on Saturday’s Football Focus.
“The Liverpool situation has now emerged,” he stated. He would probably go. There isn’t currently a pact or agreement between the teams, and it hasn’t happened. According to what I gather, Marc Guehi will play against Chelsea tomorrow, which is a little risky given injuries and other factors. After that, negotiations will resume on Monday. However, there are undoubtedly legs to that agreement.
However, a few things could need to change in order to make Guehi’s move to Merseyside easier.
First, it appears like Palace offensive midfielder Eberechi Eze will depart the Eagles this summer after being strongly linked to both Arsenal and Spurs in recent days.
Palace will thus probably look for a replacement, and they have already expressed interest in Bilal El Khannouss of Leicester City.
Reports, however, have also indicated that Harvey Elliott of Liverpool might be utilized in a “swap deal” that would be advantageous to both Palace and Liverpool.
Elliott may be used as a “make weight” in a player-plus-cash trade to get the Guehi transfer through, but his future is unknown this summer.
The Bundesliga team RB Leipzig has also been connected to the England youth international.
Guehi would help Liverpool, and Palace would make money and have a ready-made replacement for Eze should he decide to go this summer.
