Michael Owen has predicted the whole Premier League table for 2025/26.
Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Bournemouth are expected to finish around mid-table.
Liverpool is expected to dominate the upcoming season, aiming for a treble while confounding expectations.
Michael Owen has revealed his full Premier League table prediction for 2025/26, ahead of the season’s opening weekend. The world’s most watched football league has returned, and anticipation is strong. Many feel Liverpool’s big summer expenditure will result in an impressive title defence. Another widespread notion is that all three freshly promoted clubs will immediately return to their previous level.
Of course, football is rarely so straightforward. From first to twentieth place, the season is always full of surprises. But that hasn’t stopped former players and experts from making predictions, each eager to show that their football knowledge outshines the rest.
In a recent article on the Premier League’s official website, a panel of analysts were asked to forecast the final table, select a top goalscorer, highlight potential shock events, and make a variety of other daring predictions. Owen, in particular, might make headlines for his bold statements about Tottenham and Liverpool.
Relegation

If Owen’s forecasts are correct, this will be the third season in a row that all three newly promoted teams will be relegated to the Championship, highlighting the growing gap between England’s top two divisions. The only genuine surprise, maybe, is that he has Burnley finishing dead last.
Last season, both Burnley and Leeds United scored 100 points in the Championship, with Leeds winning on goal difference. Both teams’ defenses were very strong, with Burnley conceding only 16 goals in 46 games. But, with Leeds and Sunderland improving more significantly over the summer, Owen reckons Scott Parker’s team will struggle the hardest.
Owen predicts Brentford to finish 17th, just avoiding relegation. The Bees have had a rough offseason, losing manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham and top scorer Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United. A probable transfer of Yoane Wissa to Newcastle before the September deadline could further damage them. Owen has them finishing just behind Wolves, who he ranks 16th following the departures of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha.

Mid-table

Crystal Palace enters the new season as a potential dark horse for many observers, having won two trophies at Wembley Stadium in as many months – the FA Cup and the Community Shield. They’ve traditionally held 12th position in recent years, which has become a running joke among fans, but Owen anticipates a drop to 15th. He most certainly saw an unimpressive transfer window and the added strain of Europa Conference League fixtures as punctuating issues.
Owen has West Ham in 14th place, precisely where they finished last season, while Bournemouth is expected to finish 13th, a step back after flirting with European qualifying last season. Fulham, however, are expected to stagnate under Marco Silva, remaining in 12th place.
Perhaps the most depressing outlook is reserved for Nottingham Forest fans. Owen ranks them 11th, despite their outstanding home record last season, when they conceded less goals than any other Premier League team, and an ambitious ownership that supported their Europa League qualification campaign. Forest fans, encouraged by memories of the club’s glory days, will be hopeful that last year’s success marks the beginning of something bigger. However, Owen believes that their fairytale 2024/25 season will be a one-time occurrence.

Race for European Places

Brighton & Hove Albion seem to have a limitless supply of talent. Whether losing innovative managers or trading off young talents, the Seagulls always seem to find equally capable replacements. Owen feels that conveyor belt of quality will be enough to secure tenth place this season.
Everton, on the other hand, is expected to expand into the Texas market. Under new American ownership, in their first full season since David Moyes’ return, and playing in a brand-new stadium, the Toffees are expected to finish ninth. Their offense appears to be set to improve thanks to the skill of Iliman Ndiaye, the gem in the crown, as well as the arrival of Jack Grealish on a loan-to-buy deal from Manchester City and Thierno Barry, who scored 11 goals for Villarreal in La Liga last season. Regarding Everton, Owen said:
“I think there’s a positive vibe throughout the club. I can see them finishing in the top half and potentially fighting for Europe.”

Despite the ongoing story of Alexander Isak, perhaps the only world-class player outside the Premier League’s ‘big six’, going on strike to seek a move to Liverpool, Owen remains certain Eddie Howe can guide Newcastle to eighth place. Aston Villa, hindered by a quiet, PSR-restricted summer, are expected to finish seventh, but Owen believes his former club Manchester United will pass them for sixth.
The Red Devils have rebuilt their forward line with the additions of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. However, worries remain about their goalkeeper, defence, and midfield, and their manager’s reserved attitude adds to the uncertainty. And in the post-Ferguson period, United’s massive spending has frequently promised more than it delivered – a cautionary tale heading into 2025/26 as those packed into the Theatre of Dreams continue to build castles in the air in the hopes of reclaiming their glory days.

Top Five

Owen expects Tottenham will jump 12 places to break into the top five and secure Champions League participation, which is even bolder than his claim for Manchester United. Under Frank, the Lilywhites will be lot more structured, and with the transfer window still open, Eberechi Eze and Savinho may walk through the same doors as Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha.
That would leave Spurs just behind an unchanged top four from last season: Chelsea, whose fans are the most confident of success according to a recent survey, in fourth, Manchester City’s rebuilding beginning at a more measured pace as they reclaim third, and Arsenal settling for a fourth consecutive runners-up medal.
Owen may have been completely ostracised by his boyhood club Liverpool, with ties to Manchester United and Real Madrid making him feel unwelcome at Anfield, but he has gone all-in on his predictions for the Reds. With nearly ยฃ300 million spent this summer, he believes record acquisition Florian Wirtz will be playmaker of the year, earning his third consecutive Player of the Year award after two in the Bundesliga. He also believes Mohamed Salah will win a record-breaking fifth Golden Boot, Arne Slot will be named Manager of the Year, and Liverpool will win three titles.
“I believe they are currently well ahead. I know Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League last season and beat them on the way, but I’d put Liverpool as the favourites this season. They are also my Premier League favourites, and I believe they have the potential to win three of the four championships in which they compete.

Already England’s most decorated club, another successful season may see the Reds extend their advantage over Manchester United even more. After years of conservative net spending, FSG appears to be poised to restore Liverpool’s invincibility – which is bad news for everyone else hoping for silverware.
