In a preseason friendly at the Emirates against La Liga team Villarreal, Viktor Gyokeres made his complete Arsenal debut.
Supporters have already given Viktor Gyokeres their immediate opinions following his entire Arsenal debut in Wednesday night’s friendly match against La Liga team Villarreal.
The Gunners recently returned from a preseason trip to Asia, where they defeated AC Milan and Newcastle but fell short against rivals Spurs of North London 1-0 thanks to a spectacular long-range goal from Pape Sarr.
At the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s team played Villarreal in the first of two matches against Spanish teams. On Saturday, they will play Athletic Club.
For £4.99, supporters could watch the match on Arsenal’s official website and app, where they could watch new players Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, and Christian Norgaard in action.
£55 million man In a brief 20-minute cameo against Spurs, Gyokeres made his debut, and the former Sporting CP player was given the starting lineup call against Villarreal. Madueke, who joined the team from Chelsea, started on the bench for the first time.
New hires Mosquera and Zubimendi both entered the game as substitutes, but Norgaard scored and kept his spot in the starting lineup.
After finishing second in the Premier League for three straight seasons, Arsenal has been clamouring for a top-tier No. 9 for a number of years.
Gyokeres, who has scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, seems like the ideal person to address their problems at the top.

However, fans noticed a serious problem with their new striker after his first start for the North London team in a match they lost 3-2. He was mostly ineffectual during his 62 minutes at the Emirates, receiving little assistance from his colleagues.
In order to maximise Gyokeres’ potential and play to his abilities, supporters have already come to the conclusion that a significant change in the coaching style is required.
On X, a fan wrote: “Gyokeres hasn’t done anything, but I find it annoying that we don’t play the pass when he runs in behind. Because our style of play is so constrictive, it seems as though players are not permitted to play through balls.”
Another said: “Gyokeres has had fewer than three touches in the last thirty-five minutes. It’s a coaching problem; getting Eze, Leao, or Rodrygo won’t make a difference.”
“I’m laughing here, man,” a third person added. Gyokere’s life has drastically changed; he no longer receives passes during transitions but instead crosses the ball left, right, and centre when he is unable to head it to save his life.
Another player complained: “These man are just hoofing the ball into the box & not playing to Gyokeres’ feet.”
“These players can’t even create a single chance for Gyokeres!” was the last individual to voice their displeasure.
“I think it was important for him to start a match,” Mikel Arteta stated in reference to Gyokeres’ debut appearance for his team. I noticed a great deal of purpose and a lot of stuff.
“It’s good overall for many guys who haven’t played a lot. He’s so willing and self-assured that I know he’ll be prepared.”
On Sunday, August 17, Arsenal will meet Manchester United at Old Trafford to begin the new season.
