Compilation of Florian Wirtz performance against AC Milan has emerged and it’s got fans talking

In Hong Kong, Florian Wirtz made his Liverpool debut against AC Milan, who won 4–2.

A montage of Florian Wirtz’s performance from his Saturday debut for Liverpool has fans talking on the internet.

In a major declaration of commitment by the Premier League winners, Wirtz joined Liverpool earlier this summer for £116 million, making him the club’s biggest signing.

Fans were drooling over the footage of the Germany international’s debut in a friendly victory over Stoke City at the AXA Training Centre, where he signed a deal that would last until 2030.

As part of a two-game journey to Asia, Wirtz and his Liverpool colleagues played a friendly match against AC Milan in Hong Kong to intensify their preparations for the next season.

However, Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Noah Okafor (2) scored goals for the Rossoneri, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored goals as the Reds lost 4-2.

Wirtz started as a false nine for the match since Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were not in the squad and new £79 million striker Hugo Ekitike was not yet ready to play.

The 22-year-old played 45 minutes and showed off his trademark drop of the shoulder in between the lines, but despite 91% pass accuracy and half a dozen dribbles, he was unable to score or provide an assist.

Online admirers, however, had mixed opinions about his performance; some were impressed, while others were not persuaded after just one match.

The following was posted by a fan on X: “Florian Wirtz, I’m standing up and applauding.”

However, someone else asked, “Is this a fail comp?”

A third wrote: “It’s okay, I suppose, nothing particularly noteworthy, though.”

A fourth person said: “This comp was made to make him look good and I see nothing impressive.”

One last individual disagreed, adding: His initial touch is insanely good. He literally never makes a mistake and always positions himself for the following move.

Wirtz’s talent has pleased Liverpool players, with Ryan Gravenberch praising the 22-year-old’s skills.

“I think everyone knows Florian and also here in training he is a really good player: technical, really good vision,” stated the Dutchman.

“So I am really happy that he is here and I can’t wait for the season to start also to play with him.”

Liverpool’s next game is against Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan on Wednesday.
