Anthony Elanga Shows His 100m Time and Top Speed Ahead of Newcastle Move

Eddie Howe will be bringing one of the Premier League’s fastest players to St James’ Park, and Anthony Elanga is getting closer to joining Newcastle United.

According to Keith Downie of Sky Sports, Elanga is in Tyneside to finish a medical before joining the Magpies in a £55 million transfer from Nottingham Forest. When Nuno Espirito Santo’s team pulled off an unexpected European qualifying last season, he was one of the star players at the City Ground.

Elanga’s speed has always been an issue for top division defenders, especially Manchester United, his former team, against whom he scored an incredible solo goal in a 1-0 victory. As evidenced by his racing away on the track and the field, Howe probably wants him mostly because of his scary speed.

Newcastle are signing one of the Premier League’s fastest players

Elanga posted a video of himself running a 100-meter sprint on social media to demonstrate his speed. With a high speed of 24.7 miles per hour, the Swedish winger recorded an incredible time of 10.93 seconds while standing.

A one-on-one matchup with the 23-year-old fast, who would challenge Usain Bolt, is not something you would want to do. Despite not beginning from a standing position, the Jamaican sprinter’s 2009 Olympic world record was only 1.35 seconds faster.

According to one fan, Elanga’s running prowess might have opened up new employment options:

“If Elanga’s parents went to USA instead of Sweden we’d have a new gold medalist.”

With one supporter describing the Swede as a “freakish” athlete and another as a “excellent ball carrier,” the Toon are thrilled to see him arrive on Tyneside.

With six goals and eleven assists in 38 league appearances last season, Elanga was a riot on the wing during his tenure at the City Ground. He accomplished this while becoming one of the league’s fastest players.

With a maximum speed of 22.78, the former Manchester United academy product ranked among the Premier League’s top five fastest players. According to Opta, he was only outpaced by Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes (22.82) and Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven (23.07).

After running 85 meters in nine seconds and leaving multiple defenders stunned, Elanga scored past Andre Onana against the Red Devils. Come next season, Newcastle supporters will be hoping to witness this sight frequently.

The Magpies have had a disappointing summer so far, losing out on players like Bryan Mbeumo, who is linked to Manchester United, and Joao Pedro, who recently joined Chelsea as a striker. However, they are making rapid progress in their hunt for Elanga, and he will be enjoying building a formidable front line alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
