Diogo Jota died at the age of only 28. The Liverpool player was enjoying some vacation in Zamora, Spain, when his Lamborghini off the road due to a tyre burst while overtaking. The accident was devastating, taking the life of his brother, Andre Silva.
Football fans have been pouring in their tributes. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have recently posted tributes, and Liverpool has also issued a statement.
Jota’s Liverpool teammates have also started sharing thoughts on social media following the Portuguese star’s demise. Stefan Bajcetic was the first Liverpool player to react. On his Instagram account, he posted a greyed-out photo of the pair in pre-season training with the caption: “You will be remembered, my friend”.
Darwin Nunez has also reacted. He shared two photos of himself in training: one from a match and one from training. He also stated, “There are no words of comfort for such anguish.”
I’ll always remember you for your smile and as a terrific comrade on and off the pitch.
“I send all of my strength to his family; no matter where he is, I am confident he will always be with you, especially his wife and three children. Q.E.P.D. Diogo and Andre”.
Tyler Morton wrote: “Devastating. RIP, brother. You will be missed and remembered. Thank you for everything. “My condolences to the family.”
Alexis Mac Allister took to Instagram to pay tribute to Jota. He posted a snapshot of the two and remarked, “I can’t believe it. I’ll never forget your grins, your rage, your knowledge, your camaraderie, and everything that made you a person. It hurts so much, and we will miss you. “Rest in peace, Diogo.”

Harvey Elliott paid tribute to Jota on his Instagram story. The Englishman exclaimed, “Diogo, I can’t believe you’ve left. It’s difficult to express how deeply this upsets us. You were an amazing football player… The kind that made an impact every time you went onto the pitch. You were humble, hard-working, kind, and always willing to help anyone in need.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have shared the pitch with you, as well as memories and experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life.” You’ll always be a member of this team and the Liverpool family. We shall never forget you. My heart goes out to your entire family. I love you, brother. Diogo and Andre, rest peacefully. “You will never walk alone.”
Former Liverpool players who were teammates with Jota have also spoken up. Naby Keita stated that he was “shocked” by the news and added, “I will never forget you bro.” Sadio Mane also shared an image of himself and Jota with two devastated emojis.
While Jurgen Klopp, who bought Jota for Liverpool in 2020 and managed him until 2024, has also written an impassioned tribute. He wrote:
“This is a difficult moment for me! There must be a larger purpose! But I cannot see it! I am devastated to learn about Diogo and his brother André’s deaths.
“Diogo was not just an outstanding athlete, but also a wonderful friend, a kind and caring husband and parent! We’ll miss you so much! All of my prayers, thoughts, and strength go out to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends, and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace.

Cody Gakpo followed by saying: “I love you brother. May your soul rest in peace.”
Ibrahima Konate, too, turned to social media to remember his old teammate, posting an emotional video of their time together – not on the pitch, but behind the scenes, where Jota’s true nature shone through.
The caption said, “Diogo…” I still cannot believe it. I am devastated. I have no words to explain my emotions. Aside from being an incredible football player, you were also an exceptional man, friend, and brother! May you and André rest peacefully.”
“I am absolutely devastated by this news. This club, this family that we built together, will never forget you! I think back on all of the moments we enjoyed and can’t believe it; they all seemed wonderful… You can be certain of one thing: your family will not go alone. We’ll be there to aid them during this difficult time.”
“I’d like to address the world today with Diogo and his brother. Yesterday, it was someone else. Tomorrow, it may be us. Let us enjoy every moment of life, with our families, friends, and even strangers. Let us endeavour to live in harmony and send each other love. We’re not sure what tomorrow will bring. “I love you, my brother.”
