Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher React to Liverpool Forward Diogo Jota’s Tragic Death

Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard paid tribute to Diogo Jota on social media following the Liverpool forward’s terrible demise. Jota, 28, perished in an automobile accident in the early hours of Thursday, along with his brother, Andre Silva.

According to sources, the automobile, a Lamborghini, fled the road after a tyre blew out while overtaking another vehicle. Jota and his brother died after their car caught fire.

“The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was involved in a traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking,” the Spanish Guardia Civil stated in a statement. “It happened early in the morning, at 00:30 BST, in Cernadilla, Zamora. The car caught fire, and both occupants were killed.

The President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proenca, said in a separate statement: “The Portuguese Football Federation and everyone of Portuguese football are completely heartbroken by the loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva this early morning in Spain.

“More than an incredible athlete with nearly 50 international appearances for the national team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, someone with infectious pleasure and a reference in the community.

“On my part, and on behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the teams where they played football.

“The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested a minute of quiet from Uefa on Thursday, before our national team’s match against Spain in the Women’s European Championship.

“The loss of Diogo and Andre represent irreplaceable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything, daily, to honour their legacy.”
