Manchester United is getting closer to a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbuemo after submitting a revised proposal, although there are still some things to work out.
United have been working hard to finalise a deal for Mbeumo, who was seen as the ideal choice to fill one of the two number 10 positions with new acquisition Matheus Cunha.
Mbeumo scored 20 goals for Brentford last season, all in the Premier League. Only Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), and Erling Haaland (Manchester City) scored more goals than him in the competition. Mbeumo had never scored more than ten goals for a top-tier team before.
He scored 11 goals in all competitions for Ligue 2 Troyes in 2018/19 and 16 for Brentford in the 2019/20 season, when they were still in the Championship.
Mbeumo produced consistent results in his first three Premier League seasons, scoring eight, nine, and nine goals in all competitions.
Brentford knocked down United’s original approach of £55 million for Mbeumo, who is thought to be holding out for roughly the same amount as Cunha.
According to a story published by The Peoples Person on Monday, the Red Devils made a new and better offer for the Cameroonian worth more than £60 million.
The Standard has now disclosed Brentford’s view on this latest development.
According to the tabloid, Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford is “edging closer,” but Brentford wants more clarity on add-ons and performance-related bonuses.
The Standard reports: “Brentford are hoping to negotiate easier add-ons from United, whose latest bid is worth £55m up front with a further £5m in add-ons, before sanctioning a deal for Mbeumo.”
“While United remain the frontrunners for Mbeumo, Brentford are understandably prepared to entertain a bidding war for their star forward.”
Mbeumo’s sale would be a club record exit, surpassing the £40 million Al-Ahli paid to bring Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League.
