Viktor Gyokeres makes Man United transfer ‘U-turn’ as £86m timeline emerges

Transfer rumours for Manchester United as While Ruben Amorim waits for his ideal signing, Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer status is still in the balance.

According to reports, Manchester United is in the lead to sign Viktor Gyokeres after the Sporting CP talisman changed his mind about joining Arsenal this summer.

Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals in 52 games the previous season, has been at the centre of the summer transfer market thus far. The 27-year-old is anticipated to depart Portugal this transfer window, but negotiations have stopped.

The Portuguese champions are reportedly seeking £86 million for their top player, but a dispute with Sporting CP and club president Frederico Varandas has further delayed a deal. Varandas accused the player’s agency of saying the club would accept £59 million as part of a gentlemen’s agreement.

It was widely rumoured earlier this month that Gyokeres had made up his mind that he would rather join Arsenal. Like United, the Gunners have been strongly favoured to spend a lot of money on a new No. 9 to lead their Premier League title challenge.

United cannot provide Gyokeres with Champions League football, but Mikel Arteta’s team can. The north Londoners are reportedly prioritising a move for Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, with a £60 million deal reportedly in the works.

According to The Mirror, Gyokeres has since decided against moving to Manchester in order to be with Ruben Amorim again. Intermediaries are said to have contacted the player on his behalf to convey the 27-year-old’s intention to sign with United.

The transfer for Gyokeres won’t materialise right away, though, just as United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo. Since the beginning of June, the Brentford star has reportedly been the target of a deal worth over £60 million, which has not yet been confirmed.

United will focus on selling players to raise money after the 25-year-old is signed. Most of Amorim’s team is reportedly for sale, with a special emphasis on getting rid of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.

United would then be able to sign Gyokeres as a result of player sales. The team departs for the United States in the middle of July, with their preseason beginning at the beginning of the month.

Ideally, the agreement between Amorim and United will be finalised before the tour begins. But it might be a while before Gyokeres is seen in red by United supporters.
