This summer, there have been rumours that Eze will leave Crystal Palace.
As the England international is still being linked to a high-profile move, a clear frontrunner has emerged in the competition to sign Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze.
According to talkSPORT, Eze, who concluded the previous Premier League season with eight goals and eight assists, has a release clause in his Crystal Palace contract worth approximately £68 million.
Tottenham is apparently intrigued, as they seem to be seeking a wide player in the market after being closely associated with Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth and Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford.
But Arsenal, their rivals in North London, are also interested. In fact, the Gunners are now 6/4 favourites to complete a signing this summer, and the odds on Eze doing so have been drastically reduced.
“Arsenal have been the second favourites behind Tottenham to sign Eze since last year,” stated talkSPORT Bet. “But suddenly they’ve taken the lead with some movement likely happening ahead of the new season.”
In addition to the aforementioned, Bet365 has drastically reduced their odds on Eze joining Arsenal from 25/1 to 2/1.
As Thomas Frank looks for a wide player, Eberechi Eze’s next club odds show that Tottenham is presently the second-favorite to recruit the 26-year-old. However, a number of other Premier League teams, like Manchester United and Manchester City, are also mentioned as possible suitors.
According to talkSPORT Bet, these are the complete odds:
– Arsenal 6/4
– Tottenham 2/1
-Any 12/1 German club
12/1 Manchester City
-Any 12/1 French club
-Hudson United 12/1
Liverpool 12/1
-Any 12/1 Spanish club
-BAR 20/1
Eze was a young player on Arsenal’s roster, however after five years in the academy, he was released in 2011. He was left in pieces by that moment.
In a 2020 interview with The Independent, he stated: “I was 13 [when I was released].” The worst one was that one. My mother assured me that everything would be alright, but I was unable to go past the tears I shed in my room for a whole week.
“I was finally beginning to appreciate football again after I moved to Fulham. A few months later, we played Arsenal, but I started crying when I approached the academy manager to shake his hand. All of the emotions returned.
Speaking on his release, Eze also mentioned that playing for Arsenal was his “dream” team.
He told the Rising Ballers YouTube channel, “It was difficult to hear them say no at the age of thirteen because my dream was to play for them. I remember training after I was released and I couldn’t focus.”
“I think that sobbing really helped me deal with the other rejections because if I can get Arsenal to release me, I can convince any other team to do the same. My attitude was, “I have to find somewhere else if it’s not going to be Arsenal.”
