Jurgen Klopp has sent warning to Arne Slot over Harvey Elliott as Liverpool star lights up U21 Euros

Given Harvey Elliott’s impressive performance at the Under-21 Euros, Jürgen Klopp has already warned Arne Slot about the 22-year-old.

The Young Lions advanced to the final against Germany on Saturday after defeating the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals thanks to two goals from Elliott, 22.

The Liverpool player has distinguished himself among his fellow young players and scored four goals in this summer’s competition. He has still been connected to a possible departure from Slot’s team, though.

Five teams—Brighton, Fulham, West Ham, RB Leipzig, and Fiorentina—are reportedly monitoring the 22-year-old, who had trouble securing a starting position as Liverpool won the Premier League in 2024–2025, according to Liverpool.com.

Elliott, who has only made 28 appearances under Slot, 46, stated earlier this month that he does not want to be “wasting years” of his career.

Elliott stated, “It’s just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I’m going to be 23 next season and I’m becoming older now that I’m 22.”

“Since my career is brief, I don’t really want to waste years on it. You have no idea what will occur.

“I must think. The most crucial thing is to determine whether I’m happy with what I’m doing and how I can get better as a player.

He was eager to emphasise, meanwhile, that he loved Liverpool and its supporters, and that “nothing makes me want to leave.”

However, Florian Wirtz, who was previously signed by the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen, will probably be higher in the hierarchy at Anfield than Elliott.

Elliott was previously mentioned by the 58-year-old former Liverpool manager Klopp when he listed his greatest regret while he was on Merseyside.

“I don’t look back and ask myself, ‘Well, what did we all do wrong?'” However, if I have any regrets, it’s that Harvey might not have played as much as he should have,” Klopp stated in May 2024.

“Because he performed admirably during a crucial and demanding time—January, when there were numerous injuries. In all positions—right wing, right midfield, etc.—he was arguably our finest player.

“He had minutes here, minutes there, and he stopped starting after everyone returned.”

Regarding Harvey Elliott, what has Arne Slot stated?
Slot provided an explanation in May 2025 as to why Elliott did not appear as frequently as the player might have preferred.

“Harvey hasn’t received as much playing time as he may have deserved, but like some other players, he faces a lot of talented players that I’ve mostly selected,” Slot said.

It’s also partially because, as I’ve been honest with him, he was injured for a long time and wasn’t the same person when he initially returned from his injury.

“But in the past few months, he’s returned to his previous level.”
