A transfer to the Premier League has been strongly suggested for the Sporting CP striker.
According to reports, Viktor Gyokeres is prepared to “change his mind” about the club he wishes to join this summer.
Gyokeres, 27, has been strongly linked to a number of teams, including Manchester United and Arsenal, after making an impression with Sporting CP, scoring 54 goals in 52 games.
According to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, the Sweden international, who has a contract with Sporting until June 2028, told his close friends and family that he wanted to join the London club and that he initially preferred a possible move to the Gunners because they would be playing in the Champions League the following season.
Crook stated last week: “I received a communication about a day ago indicating that Viktor Gyokeres has informed friends and relatives that he anticipates joining Arsenal.
Because of his prior association with Ruben Amorim, we are aware that Manchester United is also interested in signing him.
“However, Arsenal can provide Champions League play and possibly a chance to win the championship the next year.
“But Sporting is going to play hardball; Gyokeres and the club have a falling out because his agent said they had a gentleman’s agreement that allowed him to leave for £60 million, but I believe they’re looking for closer to £80 million.”
Earlier this week, Gyokeres called Sporting’s sporting director Frederico Varandas to inform him of his decision to leave the team for Arsenal, according to a shocking revelation from the Portuguese publication Record, which Sport Witness cited.
However, a significant twist has recently surfaced. Benjamin Sesko, a striker for RB Leipzig and Slovenia who was also linked to the Gunners last summer, is reportedly Arsenal’s top choice, according to The Mirror.
According to the report, this may now allow Man United to increase their interest in Gyokeres, who was previously employed by head coach Ruben Amorim while he was in Lisbon.
Intermediaries have contacted Gyokeres on his behalf to indicate that he is prepared for a move to Old Trafford, as the player is “becoming more and more aware that his best bet this summer may be to reunite with former boss Amorim.”
However, in order to finance the transfer, he could have to wait for United to sell players.
