Xabi Alonso tells Real Madrid to pull plug on transfer after changing his mind on current player

Xabi Alonso has instructed Real Madrid to cancel a transfer after changing his mind about a current player.

Real Madrid have already signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth and Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in preparation for the new season.

Franco Mastantuono will also join the Spanish giants when he turns 18, after the club exercised the release option in his River Plate contract.

Real Madrid is still looking for new players, with a midfielder and a forward believed to be on their radar.

However, Alonso has changed his mind about his team’s search of a forward following the success of Gonzalo Garcia in the Club World Cup.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Garcia is seen as the solution to the club’s striker dilemma, and his performance in the Club World Cup has’stopped’ Real’s quest for a ‘good’ and ‘affordable’ No.9.

Garcia, 21, has led the line in Real’s first two games in the United States and scored in the team’s 1-1 tie with Al Hilal.

His performances have ‘delighted’ Alonso, who has dropped Real’s chase of Ante Budimir.

Real had considered Budimir as a potential alternative and wanted a player with a similar profile to Joselu, but a trade will not be pursued following Garcia’s performance at the Club World Cup.

Last season, the Croatian scored the most goals of his career.

For Osasuna, he scored 24 goals in all competitions, 21 of which were in the league.

The 33-year-old formerly played for Mallorca, where he scored 13 goals in 35 league games.

Budimir, who has a release clause of £7 million, was queried about a possible move to Real Madrid while on international duty.

“Are Real Madrid interested?” I have the highest regard for my club, Osasuna. “I’m very happy where I am,” he stated.

“I understand there may be some curiosity, but my concentration has been on Croatia, and now it is time to recuperate.

“I will leave the transfer talks to someone else.”
