Gyokeres remains a Sporting player, but the tale appears to be coming to a close.
Viktor Gyokeres’ future has taken another turn amid ongoing interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, and Juventus.
The 27-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a move away from his present club Sporting Lisbon in 2025.
He’s had a tremendous season for the Portuguese club, scoring 52 goals in all competitions.
Arsenal, United, and Juventus have all expressed interest in signing the Sweden international.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the striker and his representatives rejected a contract offer of €13 million from Juventus last week.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas, meanwhile, accused Gyokeres’ camp of ‘blackmail’ amid reports that the club had established a gentleman’s agreement to sell him for a predetermined fee of €60 million, plus €10 million in additional funds.
Last Thursday, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook revealed that the striker had told friends and family that he expected to play for Arsenal next season.
However, it has now been speculated that United are plotting a surprise offer to reunite Gyokeres with former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim.
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, the Europa League runners-up are considering offering winger Antony and €35 million in a swap deal to sign Gyokeres.
Antony is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford having spending the second half of last season on loan at Spanish club Real Betis.
However, the Brazilian has given himself choices following a fantastic season in Spain, when he scored nine goals in all competitions and helped Betis reach the Conference League final.
However, former United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club is also ready to move on from Gyokeres and has been monitoring alternative prospects in case he joins Arsenal.
According to The Sun, Amorim intends to leave Antony out of his United squad for next season’s pre-season tour of the United States, along with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho.
Gyokeres could become United’s second summer signing, following the £62.5 million agreement for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old would be willing to transfer to Old Trafford, given that they will not play in Europe next season – but Sporting must accept any deal before making a choice.
