Chelsea Fans Cast Clear Verdict on Liam Delap After Club World Cup Debut vs LAFC

Following Liam Delap’s debut during Monday night’s 2-0 FIFA Club World Cup victory over LAFC, Chelsea supporters have expressed their opinions about the former Ipswich Town striker online. Despite interest from teams like Manchester United, the 22-year-old decided to move from Portman Road to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Delap, wearing the notorious number nine shirt, entered the game as a substitute in the second half of Enzo Maresca’s team’s easy, if lackluster, opening tournament win. Additionally, some fans have expressed their initial thoughts about the rising England star.

Delap Shines on Chelsea Debut

The striker looked sharp and was an immediate threat

Delap was one of Chelsea’s best players of the evening, even though he only entered the game in the 64th minute. He was a nuisance and showed a desire to rush in behind, hold the ball up, and show off his physical prowess wherever he could.

During his cameo, he created two great chances but was unable to deliver a shot on goal. In the first, he cut the ball back to Enzo Fernandez, whose shot was stopped behind for a corner, after beating his defender on the outside and driving at an angle towards goal.

Shortly after, however, the same pair would get their benefits as the striker once again sent an inch-perfect cross to the charging Argentine, who managed to control under duress and slot home from close range.

Fans were eager to praise the newcomer online after the assist, which was the high point of Delap’s bright start to life at his new club.

“Liam Delap helps. After witnessing the striker’s skill at creating plays, one person said, “Looks the real deal,” while another said, “Liam Delap is a special footballer and I feel sad for those who don’t get it yet.”

“The Cole Palmer and Liam Delap combination is going to be quite something,” a third enthusiastically added, while a fourth said, “Liam Delap might actually end the number 9 curse.” “That’s a lovely assist from Liam Delap,” said a fifth, capping the compliments, demonstrating that the former Tractor Boy has already left a positive impression at his new club.
