Liverpool preparing £100 million bid for Premier League player to continue Arne Slot’s major squad rebuild

Arne Slot could be contemplating another major £100 million attempt to strengthen his team, just days after sealing a deal for Florian Wirtz.

After a quiet first year in the transfer market under Slot, Liverpool appear to be ready to spend big this summer as the Dutch manager attempts to rebuild his Premier League-winning side for next season.

Jeremie Frimpong, a Bayer Leverkusen defender, was the first player to join the Reds as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Wirtz is likely to sign a Premier League record deal in the coming days.

However, Slot’s renovation is anticipated to continue, with the club reportedly seeking several other large players, including Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and another £100 million Premier League star.

According to The Sun, Liverpool are considering making a huge approach for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon amidst doubt over Luis Diaz’s future.

According to previous reports, if Diaz leaves the club this summer to join Barcelona or another team, Slot would want to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.

However, it is now believed that the Champions League winners want to keep the Frenchman, which has led Liverpool to redirect their focus to Everton academy graduate Gordon, who has previously been linked with a move to Anfield.

However, a transfer for the 24-year-old will not come cheap, as Eddie Howe and Newcastle board members hold him in high respect.

Since joining from Everton for £45 million in January 2024, the Liverpudlian has established himself as a crucial component in Howe’s team, scoring 22 goals and assisting 26 in 106 games in all competitions.

Gordon’s price tag is unlikely to be an issue for Liverpool, especially because at least one of Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, and Diogo Jota is anticipated to leave in the coming months.

If the move goes through, Newcastle are expected to attempt to replace Gordon with a loan move for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.
