Trent Alexander-Arnold was introduced as a Real Madrid player on Thursday afternoon. The Englishman, who joined the club from Liverpool this summer, delivered his first speech as a Los Blancos player in flawless Spanish.
“I understand that I am signing for Real Madrid, and the demands are great, but I am going to give my all for the squad and the Real Madrid fans. I want to show those followers how I play, win many titles, be a winner here, and enjoy competing with the best. “Hala Madrid!”
Why does Trent have his first name on the back of his shirt?
He no longer has his last name.
Alexander-Arnold wore the number 66 jersey throughout his time at Liverpool. However, according to La Liga rules, he is unable to wear the number for Real Madrid and will instead wear the club’s number 12 shirt.
Throughout his club and national career, the 26-year-old has worn his surname on the back of his shirt. However, he will no longer do so for the Spanish powerhouse. Instead, his initial name will appear on the back of his shirt.
Alexander-Arnold, regarded as one of the top right-backs in the world, was asked about his decision to join Real Madrid during his unveiling. He explained: “To be honest, that’s a simple explanation. I’ve always found that when I travel to Europe, the whole name scenario puzzles a lot of people because there are three names and they’re double-barreled. People call me Arnold, Alexander, Alex, Trent, and there’s a lot going on.
“I just thought, ‘Let’s make it simple. Let’s make it easy.'” Trent on the back and became known as Trent. That’s my name, so I suppose that’s what people will call me.
Alexander-Arnold has also altered his Instagram handle, from ‘trentarnold66’ to ‘trent’. According to the BBC, using a mononym is considered a strength in branding and marketing since it stands out and is easier to recall.
Real Madrid’s new star might make his debut on Wednesday, June 18, when the Spanish club faces Al-Hilal in their first 2025 FIFA Club World Cup encounter.
