Tottenham qualify for little-known UEFA tournament only one team has ever won after Europa League final win

Tottenham secured their place in another UEFA tournament by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Tottenham Hotspur have earned a spot in an exclusive UEFA competition by winning the Europa League final.

Spurs redeemed their 2024/25 season by defeating English rivals Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final last month, following a disappointing Premier League season.

Winning the European final means that, despite finishing 17th in the Premier League, the London team has secured a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Spurs, however, will face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in August, in addition to the Champions League, which they qualified for after defeating Manchester United.

Spurs’ success does not end there; winning the Europa League qualifies them for another elite UEFA competition.

Spurs qualified for the UEFA-Conmebol Club Challenge, a match between the Europa League winners and the champions of South America’s Copa Sudamericana.

The competition, which began two years ago as a revised version of the Supercopa Euroamericana, saw Sevilla, the 2023 Europa League winners, hoist the inaugural trophy.

The La Liga club hosted Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium and won on penalties.

Last year’s competition was scheduled to pit Italian team Atalanta against Ecuadorian side Liga de Quito, however the match was canceled due to the two clubs’ inability to agree on a date.

Spurs will face Racing Club from Argentina in this year’s encounter, which Club President and former Inter Milan star Diego Milito is eager to organize.

However, there are already concerns that the game may meet the same fate as the 2024 match, as according to Football.London, UEFA officials believe it will be difficult to find a good time to play the game.

Spurs are slated to play three friendly matches in three separate countries this summer, against Arsenal and Newcastle United in Hong Kong and Seoul, before returning to Europe to face club legend Harry Kane against Bayern Munich.
