According to the Mirror, reporter Matt Coles, who was at the procession with his family, told BBC Radio 5 Live how close they were to being hit.
“I was with my family.” We had just witnessed fireworks and jubilation, as well as the Liverpool bus passing us on the Strand,” Coles explained. “There were shouts ahead of us, and then this dark blue automobile came through the crowd. It just didn’t stop. I grabbed my daughter and jumped out of the way.
“It missed me and my family by mere inches. We then turned and briefly observed what transpired behind us before running.
It was pursued by a gang of individuals who were attempting to bang on the side of it and hurl objects at it. The back of the rear windscreen had been completely smashed in, but it showed no signs of stopping. At that time, we and others fled onto a side street, and after I was certain my family was safe, I looked back to see individuals sitting on the ground, surrounded by people.
“Police started running from all directions, ambulances and police trucks, as we moved away from the masses. An full squad of armed police cars came to a stop, and people sprang out with weapons and large medical packs, hurrying to the scene of the tragedy.”
Witnesses have reported having a close encounter with the vehicle, leaving them in shock.

Sky News also spoke with Chelsea Yuen, who attended the procession with a friend and their daughter. She claimed they needed to jump out of the way of the automobile.
“We were literally like sardines walking up the street, and then we heard beeping and screaming, and when we looked up, there was a black people carrier driving straight towards us,” she told me. “My friend Francesca and I jumped out of the way, pulling her tiny girl with us.
“I’m in shock. “We just can’t stop shaking.”
Furthermore, Harry Rashid told Sky News that “this grey people carrier just pulled up from the right and rammed into all of the people on our side.” It was heading south, down Water Street […]. It was extremely quick.”
He stated that he observed people being hit by the automobile before the driver stalled briefly and then “put his foot down again and ploughed through the rest of them.”
“It was terrible. My daughter began screaming, and there were people on the ground.
