After confirming his departure from Real Madrid, Luka Modric has been predicted to make an unexpected return to English football.
Modric announced his intention to depart Los Blancos this summer after 13 trophy-filled years with the team.
The midfield virtuoso posted on social media: “The moment has arrived. I didn’t want to be there, but that’s football, and everything in life has a start and a finish. I’ll play my final game at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
“As a football player and a person, playing for Real Madrid transformed my life. Being a part of one of the most prosperous periods in the history of the greatest club makes me proud. I will always be a Madridista even though I won’t be wearing this shirt on the pitch after the Club World Cup.”
The 39-year-old has been connected to teams in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United States since the news broke.
Fernando Morientes, a former Madrid player, has predicted that Modric will make an unexpected transfer to Swansea City in Wales.
“It would be amazing to have Luka Modric play for Swansea,” he told CasinoHawks, which provides the newest online casinos.
“I have no doubt that the supporters would be quite excited. Even if he is nearing the end of his career, a player like Luka Modric would undoubtedly be thrilled about the initiative and would be welcomed.
“Obviously, we shouldn’t expect him to be 100 per cent or at his best because he’s at a certain age, but even when he came on against Barcelona, the feeling of Madrid in midfield changed.”
“He probably lacks the competitive rhythm that a game like that requires, but he’s so smart, so good in midfield, and he has so much quality that he could continue to give a few good seasons,” Morientes added.
“I think he could have a couple of good seasons in England, without a doubt and I’m convinced the excitement he would generate among the fans would be tremendous.”
Modric gained notoriety while playing for Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League in England before relocating to Madrid.
