Napoli prepared to use Scott McTominay to bring shock Premier League player to Italy

Scott McTominay is said to be helping Napoli convince a Premier League player to join the team this summer.

With 11 goals in 31 Serie A games and a crucial role in Napoli’s championship fight, McTominay has been one of the biggest success stories in world football this season.

In an attempt to restructure the team’s midfield, new manager Antonio Conte paid £25.7 million to buy him from Manchester United last summer.

Romelu Lukaku, a former Chelsea striker, and Billy Gilmour, a member of the national team, joined him in Naples, giving the Napoli club a Premier League vibe this season.

The Sun claims that Jack Grealish of Manchester City is a target for Conte, who wants to bolster his team with another Premier League star.

Grealish has mostly lost favor under Pep Guardiola throughout the last season, and the Italian has a propensity for reviving careers.

In 2025, he has made four starts in the FA Cup and only one in the Premier League.

In 2022–2023, Grealish contributed 12 goals to help City win the Premier League for the third time in a row.

However, he has only managed to score three goals in all competitions this season, which has led to criticism from fans that manager Pep Guardiola’s system isn’t making the most of his abilities.

Earlier this season, Guardiola personally expressed regret to Grealish, saying in February: “I’m so sorry he doesn’t get the minutes that maybe he deserves.”

However, Savinho’s or Jeremy [Doku’s] contributions have been enormous this season. This is the sole explanation. Either I don’t like Jack, I don’t trust him, or it’s not personal.”

According to reports, Napoli will now follow McTominay’s lead in an attempt to persuade the 29-year-old to join the team in Italy, where he would only become the fourth English player to do so.

While center-half Leslie Minter was one of the club’s official co-founders under the old name of SSC Napoli and played for them from 1926 to 1927, Axel Tuanzebe and Nathaniel Chalobah have both had loan stints with Naples in recent years.
