Chelsea defeated Liverpool, the 2024–25 Premier League winners, 3–1 on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to qualify for the top four. Sky Sports was compelled to issue an apology for Cole Palmer’s post-match interview, which went viral.
The former Manchester City player was back to his best as he strutted with pizzazz in the spaces between Liverpool’s back four and midfield. He played a key role in his team’s build-up for their first goal of the afternoon, which was completed by Enzo Fernandez following a nicely constructed goal.
Jamie Carragher, a former defender who is now a commentator, recently questioned if Chelsea was the appropriate club for him. However, he has responded with a goal of his own, a coolly executed penalty that he scored with relative ease after slipping past Alisson Becker. See it below:
Cole Palmer’s Emotional Post-Match Interview
‘What people say doesn’t bother me’
Palmer, who is considered to be among the Premier League’s top wingers at the moment, has had a difficult 2025 from a personal standpoint because he hasn’t had the same influence in the final third as he did during his first season in west London.
Palmer, 22, moved to Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 after being a revelation goal scorer in his debut season. However, he hasn’t been as successful in his second season, since his last Premier League goal came in mid-January.
Palmer, who was born in Manchester, talked to Sky Sports about breaking his long goal drought and retaliated against the “idiots and trolls” on social media after helping Chelsea defeat Liverpool in a memorable match. Following his statement, Sky Sports was compelled to issue an apology.
“You know what I mean when I say that s*** happens? I didn’t score for three months, but that only makes me more determined to perform well for my team as well as for myself.
Before his team hosted the English champions, the 11-cap England international had played 18 games for both club and country without scoring, as he usually does with grace. He acknowledged that he prefers to ignore the taunts on social media.
These days, social media is just full of trolls and fools. I don’t give that any thought. Palmer and Moises Caicedo emphasized, “I’m happy to have scored today, but it’s only one, and I have to keep improving and try to reach new levels.”

The attacking midfielder responded, “[It would be] for anyone,” when asked if he has had a “tough couple of months.” At the end of the day, you are failing your team if you are creating opportunities but failing to score. In any case, I believe I have a strong mind.
Therefore, I’m not bothered by what people say. I don’t really care because I’ve had it my entire life. I take pride in supporting the squad, and I’m not content if I’m not doing that.
Palmer said, “Today, I felt like myself,” after his impressive performance against Slot’s men. I was playing forward, playing free, doing new things, and feeling confident. It’s truly a dream when you have Moises Caicedo by your side.
After hosting Swedish team Djurgarden in the second leg of their Europa Conference League semifinal, Palmer and his colleagues will head across the nation to face Newcastle United, a team they are competing against for a Champions League berth next season.
