The potential reunion of the Swedish striker and Amorim might be a crucial component in Manchester United’s transfer jigsaw.
Since Manchester United hired former Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim, there has been a great deal of conjecture around the future of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres.
A new striker will be the foremost priority for the Red Devils during the summer transfer window as they have struggled for goals under both Amorim and Erik ten Hag.
When Amorim left for Old Trafford, Gyokeres was in incredible form in Portugal, and their names have unavoidably been linked to United’s attack failing miserably during a terrible Premier League season.
The 26-year-old former Coventry City star is reportedly amenable to returning to England. Although it would be obvious that Manchester United would want him, Arsenal is also reportedly interested.
Gyokeres may be interested in getting back together with his old coach, but it won’t be the main consideration in any decision he makes at the end of the 2024–25 campaign.
Christopher Michel, a European transfer specialist, believes that Amorim and Manchester United may have trouble pursuing their top center-forward target because of one red line in particular.
According to Michel on X, formerly Twitter, “Viktor Gyokeres will be a hot topic on the transfer market this summer!”
However, he desires to participate in the Champions League. Amorim has developed him, and Chelsea and Arsenal are quite keen. [Man Utd] is also keeping a close eye on him.”
The most surprising thing is that Amorim’s new team can still meet that demand despite being mired in the Premier League’s lower echelons.

“To have a realistic chance, the club probably has to win the Europa League,” says Michel.
The Red Devils’ incredible comeback victory over Lyon in the quarterfinal earlier this month has kept them in Europe’s secondary club competition.
They will be put to the test once more on Thursday when they travel to Bilbao to play Athletic Club in the first leg of their semi-final match.
Gyokeres may have to make a choice if United can overcome the Basque powerhouses and defeat Tottenham Hotspur or Bodo/Glimt of Norway in the championship game next month.
In any case, it is obvious that one player has all the cards in this situation.
