Due to Arne Slot’s title-chasing Liverpool’s dismal lack of playing time, Darwin Nunez, who is currently out of favour, has taken to X (previously Twitter) to cast doubt on the 46-year-old Dutch tactician’s character before swiftly removing the post.
The Reds will match Manchester United’s record by winning the 20th English Premier League title with a single point against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, but it appears that not all of the players are entirely happy with their accomplishment.
Signed from Benfica in the summer of 2022, Nunez has been criticised for his lack of offensive ability. Since Slot took over as manager from Jurgen Klopp, he has dropped below Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo in the center-forward hierarchy.
The 25-year-old, who joined Liverpool in the same summer that Manchester City signed Erling Haaland, is now being linked to a summer departure, and his most recent post on X may have made things more difficult.
Nunez, who last played 90 minutes for the Merseysiders in the Premier League in December, scribbled the following in English before removing it. He wrote, in accordance with the Empire of the Kop:
“It makes sense why I didn’t play more, considering how well my last Premier League start went and how abruptly…”
The Artigas-born star has recently struggled to get game time. His mysterious comment is a reference to recent reports, as he hasn’t started under Slot’s coaching since their 3-1 victory over relegation-confirmed Southampton in March 2025.
According to those sources, if Nunez, a 35-cap, 13-goal Uruguay international, starts just one more game for the Reds, Slot, who is considered to be among the top managers in world football, would have to pay Benfica an additional €5 million (£4.3 million).
The center-forward has started 49 games in the Champions League and England’s top flight as of this writing, but according to publication A Bola, via Sport Witness, his employers would have to pay him if he reached the 50-mark.
However, in response to the rumours, Slot, who was born in Bergentheim, denied the aforementioned assertions that Nunez’s lack of minutes is due to the obscure law, according to Mail Online.
Do you think journalists are always telling the truth? Not all the time? I don’t. Sometimes it’s best to not believe everything that is stated about players, but other times you should. I’ve mentioned numerous times that I work at a club here where it’s a great place to work, but this is totally new to me.

Nunez’s remarks generated a stir among the Anfield supporters even though they were removed almost instantly. “A day before a historic title win,” one said. Darwin Nunez should be sold first after being supported all the way through since he is really immature and incorrect.
In the same vein, another Liverpool fan stated that Nunez ought to be fired this summer and that, considering the timing and his lacklustre goal-scoring performance, his post’s late deletion is “unforgivable.”
Darwin’s post about not starting cannot be excused. When some supporters still thought he could turn his career around, it was incredibly insulting and unprofessional of Arne Slot to give him opportunities without repaying the favour. particularly the day before they are crowned champs. He must leave.
