Chelsea is still researching potential new managers in order to make their third permanent head coach appointment in less than two years. It is now said that the Blues have reduced the number of potential candidates to just two.

The way this all plays out will probably depend on how long Manchester United waits to publicly support or fire Erik ten Hag. For the time being, Watson, the game is officially underway.

The people in charge of the operation are taking their time because there is work to be done in order to appoint the potential suitors. This is football.london’s most recent update on the hunt.

Eden Hazard’s selection

As the club searches for Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement, Eden Hazard has jokingly pointed them in the direction of former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fabregas. A week following the Argentine’s final game in charge, several players are still in the running for the position.

Among them are Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi (more on him later). It is understood by football.london that Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank are also being considered.

Hazard, though, has added another name to the mix for Chelsea. He answered, “Maybe,” when asked if he thought De Zerbi would win. My friend is in Como as well. He could take the lead as manager.” He winked and turned to go.

With a clear reference to Fabregas, who was recently promoted to assistant at Italian Serie B team Como, Hazard continued his carefree attitude toward life.

De Zerbi is in the lead.

Talk about De Zerbi is heating up—he went from not being on the original shortlist to leading the race. The hunt for a “mystery” candidate came to an end on Sunday when it was revealed that Chelsea was in fact considering the Italian along with a final shortlist that included McKenna, Maresca, and Frank.

According to some, De Zerbi is now much more than just a contender; in fact, some would even argue that he has emerged as the front-runner. He has been referred to as Maresca in other reports, and there are also rumors that the Chelsea decision-makers are still having trouble deciding on a name.
