The Belgian departed with the impression that a decision had been made without his input.
“It was very brief. I don’t feel like I really want to share, because I feel it was more business-wise for them. They just made a decision based on that. He went on, “I don’t feel awkward [about it],” adding, “In the end, it is what it is.” However, his club’s supporters disagree, believing that the club’s leadership made a mistake in letting him go. One X user wrote, “This is not the way to treat a player who has given everything to the club,” another said, “How can you treat your greatest ever player this way? The club should be ashamed,” and a third said, “This is truly heartbreaking. He’s been treated so poorly.”
