According to people close to Football Insider, negotiating a new deal for Ibrahima Konate is Liverpool’s top priority going into the summer transfer window.
Senior journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed in a recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that sporting director Richard Hughes is leading the charge to get the 25-year-old defender to accept a new contract.
Although Konate is now scheduled to depart Liverpool for free in June 2026, recent contract extensions with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have given the talks hope.
This comes after prior reports in March that Liverpool and Konate are still in negotiations, but that the talks have been going slowly. Real Madrid and PSG are showing interest in the centre-back, and Liverpool is keen to keep him from leaving for free this summer.
Given the ambiguity surrounding the contracts of Salah and Van Dijk, Liverpool is eager to avoid a lengthy drama similar to that around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s possible transfer to Real Madrid.
Conor Bradley: Alexander-Arnold’s Possible Substitute
A new right-back is also being considered by Liverpool in light of Alexander-Arnold’s anticipated departure. As Liverpool considers its options, Conor Bradley will be given the opportunity to establish himself before the season concludes, according to a report published by Football Insider on April 12.
In November, a former Manchester United and Blackburn scout claimed that the club considers Bradley as a possible alternative for Alexander-Arnold. However, Bradley’s injury history raises questions, which might lead Liverpool to look at bringing in a permanent successor.
