What’s Happened to Liverpool’s Jayden Danns Since He Joined Sunderland on Loan

Jayden Danns, who was expected to be one of Liverpool’s future world-beating stars, was loaned to Sunderland in February 2025 to gain senior playing time, but the center-forward’s career hasn’t exactly gone as planned.

The 2006-born player has scored three goals in nine professional appearances for the Premier League leaders as of April 2025. He also changed Cody Gakpo in the 87th minute to help the team defeat Chelsea in the League Cup final.

According to The Athletic, Arne Slot and his group believed that moving him on loan to Sunderland, who defeated Hull City and Blackburn Rovers to get the highly sought-after young player, would be advantageous for everyone. Slot is only 19 years old.

The teen will not be participating in the remaining 24/25 campaign.

Danns’ move to the second division was ideal because it gave him the chance to play for a respectable team while they were vying for promotion. Up until the summer transfer window, Sunderland had one of the best-rated players in Liverpool’s academy.

However, a back ailment discovered during his loan move medical examination has prevented him from playing for the Championship team. Regardless of his problem, Sunderland made the decision to sign him in the winter, and they have definitely paid for it.

Considered one of Liverpool’s top academy talents, the young player scored 27 goals for the Merseysiders’ younger sides in 2022–2023 and signed a long-term contract in March 2024 as a result of his achievements.

He stayed on Merseyside to recuperate, though, even though Sunderland secured a Deadline Day agreement in February. Liverpool is now hopeful that he will be healthy for their forthcoming preseason program, which will be held in Asia.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has announced that Danns, who made his Reds debut in a Premier League match against Luton Town last season, would not play for the Black Cats this season as they aim to advance to England’s top tier.

“This season, he won’t play with us. It is conclusive.

Fortunately for those hoping to advance in the Premier League, ChronicleLive revealed in February that the Wearsiders were not covering any of his salary because he had returned to Liverpool’s AXA training facility for the initial phase of his recovery.

As previously said, Sunderland was able to repel several potential suitors in order to acquire the teen’s highly sought-after services. With five games left, Le Bris’ team leads fifth-place Bristol City by 13 points and is currently in fourth place in the standings.
