Rio Ferdinand, a former defender for Manchester United, chose the three finest midfielders in the Premier League, although he left out a number of players who are considered to be among the best in the world.
On his Rio Presents program, Ferdinand chose his top three midfielders, but he left his co-host Joel Beya speechless by ignoring Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City luminaries, all of whom have a right to be considered among the finest in the history of the Premier League with their respective accomplishments.
Although he began with a selection of six players, Ferdinand swiftly eliminated Frank Lampard, a former player for Chelsea who is now the manager of Coventry City. Instead, he chose two of his former teammates from Old Trafford to compete against three players who had won a combined total of nine Premier League championships.
In spite of the great rivalry that exists between Manchester United and Liverpool, Ferdinand ranked former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as one of his top three midfielders. Kevin De Bruyne, who plays for Manchester City, was not included in his list.
“De Bruyne is not better than Gerrard on any day of the week,” stated the forward who had previously played for England at the international level. “I’m sorry, he’s not.”
Despite the fact that Ferdinand is unmoved by his objections, Beya is primarily surprised by the fact that De Bruyne was not included in the group.
Patrick Vieira, De Bruyne, Lampard, Roy Keane, Gerrard, and Scholes are all players that I have at my disposal. Ferdinand said, “They are my interpretation of Mount Rushmore.”
Despite the fact that Mount Rushmore is famed for having four faces, Ferdinand chose to reduce the number of names to three by picking Keane and Scholes, who both played for Manchester United, rather than Vieira, who won the World Cup and also had a brief period of success with Manchester City.
Ferdinand affirmed. “I’m going to say that Vieira, Lampard, and De Bruyne just miss out,” he said.
On the basis of eleven Premier League championships, Scholes is considered to be among the finest midfielders of the modern era. Keane, on the other hand, is considered to be among the best midfielders of the modern era due to his tremendous effect during United’s golden years in the 1990s.
Ferdinand remarked on the Irishman, “I don’t know if there’s ever been more of an influential on a team for as long a period of time, and as dominant, as him.”
“Roy Keane was the midfielder’s midfielder.”
During his tenure as manager of Manchester United, Keane guided the club to seven Premier League crowns, four FA Cup victories, and the long-awaited Champions League victory in 1999.
His old teammate is underappreciated by fans, according to Ferdinand, who see him in his capacity as a larger-than-life television commentator but do not recall his amazing skill as a player. Ferdinand believes that this is the case.
